I’m wondering what the purpose of this tree is? I have 3 in my yard and my landlord will not remove them for me. The thorns constantly get stuck in my kids feet. The only way I’m able to get it out, before it gets infected, is taking them to the emergency room and having them cut out. Thank you for your time.
Hawthorns are pioneer trees. They are often the first tree to invade a meadow. Their thorns provided protection for themselves from browsing animals and often seedlings of other species. Their flowers are a source of pollen and nectar for insects. Their fruit often hangs on the tree into winter providing an important source of food for birds.
